Effective July 12, 2026
Introduction
The Spokane Stake has converted all buildings to the new smartphone-based access system used by the Church. The app is named “Kindoo” and can be found on any major smartphone app platform.
The Kindoo app has several advantages over physical keys:
- Keys will be automatically issued when a calling is updated in the system
- Keys cannot be lost and cannot be used by an unauthorized person
- Temporary keys can be issued for members who don’t normally have a key
This guide is an informational reference for stake and ward leadership and others who are given building access through the Kindoo app. Ward leaders are encouraged to share this information with ward members as appropriate to assist in transitioning to the Kindoo system.
Kindoo permissions are regularly audited, so any access granted contrary to these guidelines will eventually be removed without notice.
Kindoo Management
Designated managers in the Kindoo app have the ability to grant access to other users on an as needed basis. The Stake physical facilities representative (“PFR”) is responsible for management of Kindoo across the stake. In addition to the PFR, the stake Executive Secretary and stake Clerk have management permissions.
Inquiries about Kindoo at the stake level should first be directed to the PFR. The Stake Clerk and Executive Secretary are the next responsible persons in the event the PFR is unavailable. In general, members of the stake presidency should not receive requests relating to Kindoo.
At the ward level, Kindoo management is assigned to the following individuals:
- Ward Clerk
- Elder’s Quorum President
- Relief Society President
The Ward Clerk has primary responsibility for Kindoo management in the ward.
Callings With Building Access
The table below lists stake and ward callings that are automatically associated with building access through Kindoo. The Kindoo system is connected to the Church records system, so when a member is assigned one of these callings in the system they should automatically receive Kindoo access. Please note there are some differences for YSA wards.

Temporary Access
Kindoo includes the ability to assign building access on a temporary basis. This function is limited to managers in the system. For wards, this duty generally falls on the Ward Clerk. Elders Quorum and Relief Society Presidents may assign temporary access as well.
| Example 1: | A primary teacher is holding a party on Saturday afternoon for their class. They contact the Ward Clerk and request temporary access for the day of the party. |
| Example 2: | The Relief Society President has assigned her secretary to set up for a Relief Society gathering on Thursday evening. The RS President assigns temporary access to the secretary for setup. |
Temporary access is granted through the Kindoo app by adding the user into the system (if not already present) and setting the parameters with temporary access. Managers at the ward level should not grant permanent access. Please contact the PFR if you have a need for permanent access.
The Kindoo app does not limit the duration of temporary access. In general, ward-level temporary access should not be granted for a duration longer than a week. If access is needed for a longer period, ward leadership should contact the PFR.
Manager Duties and Limitations
The Kindoo app does not distinguish between stake- and ward-level management. This means ward managers have access to users and capabilities that are outside of their ward. Ward Kindoo managers should not use Kindoo to add, remove, or alter permanent users.
Meetinghouse Access and Responsibilities
Kindoo users with permanent access should have the ability to access all meetinghouses within the stake. When assigning permissions for temporary access, managers should select the “Normal all buildings” access rule. Do not create new access rules. If you have a need to limit a user’s access to a specific building please contact the PFR.
Permanent access is granted to members holding specific callings primarily for the purpose of carrying out their associated duties. Church facilities are provided foremost for the work of gathering God’s children, and building access privileges should be considered in that context.
Church facilities should be cleaned and restored to the proper order at the end of their usage. The person with access rights is responsible for ensuring the building is cleared and locked prior to departure. If responsibilities for closing up are delegated to someone, they should be a responsible member, preferably also with building access.
Failure to adhere to guidelines for facility usage may result in loss of building access.
