General Conference and Pumpkin Waffles

Posted on September 29, 2023September 29, 2023

By President Darrell Moseley, Spokane Stake President

October has always been my favorite month of the year since I was a child. The crisp fall air and jacket weather. As I grew older, General Conference just helped to make it better. As a bishop in the Young Single Adult (YSA) ward, we would have the YSA come to the house and we would cook breakfast for each of them before conference started. It was always pumpkin waffles. That tradition, except for the YSA in my home, has carried on and it will once again be pumpkin waffles for breakfast.

My brothers and sisters of the Spokane Stake, we have the wonderful opportunity this weekend to watch and listen to General Conference. General Conference weekends, centered on the first Sundays of April and October, are two of my favorite weekends of the year. Listening to the talks from the First Presidency, the other Apostles and leaders of the Church are truly inspiring to me, and I find them quite rejuvenating in my life.

I would hope as each of you prepare for General Conference and then listen diligently to the talks throughout the sessions that you will gain better insight as how to deal with life’s challenges.

Personally, I like to take Elder Bednar’s supplication that he gives, many times before each of his talks, to, listen to what the Spirit is telling or teaching you. For me, this makes the talks much more personal as I ask myself, what is the Spirit wanting me to hear? What changes do I need to make to my own life? What do I need to do to draw closer to my Savior Jesus Christ?

I have never listened to General Conference where at least one talk, wasn’t something that I needed to hear. General Conference has always been a blessing in my life.

I would hope and pray, as you listen to General Conference this weekend, that you will listen to the Spirit, take notes as to what the Spirit is telling you, and then move forward in life with our Savior’s hand in yours and mine.

If you like pumpkin, I hope you like the waffles.

Editor’s Note: All five sessions of General Conference will be available for viewing online and at the stake center located at 1620 E 29th Avenue.

Saturday, Sep. 30: 9AM, 1PM, 5PM

Sunday, Oct. 1: 9AM, 1PM
