In this post, Spokane Stake Primary President Jennifer Anderson shares details on the upcoming Primary Activity and invites anyone who is able to contribute toward a school supply drive to help refugee children living in our local community.
This summer the Spokane Stake Primary will be hosting an activity designed specifically for the primary children of our stake ages 5 – 11. This year in Come Follow Me, families and church wards have been focusing on the teachings found in the Book of Mormon. During ward conferences this past spring, Stake Primary Leaders attended each ward primary and gave a lesson about the importance of the Book of Mormon and how there are spiritual heroes found throughout. Our summer activity will focus on exploring some of the inspiring heroes found in the Book of Mormon and promises to be both educational and fun!

What to Expect: During this activity, our primary children will have the opportunity to delve into the stories of courageous individuals from the Book of Mormon. Through interactive storytelling, games, and crafts, we will bring to life the adventures and teachings of these remarkable heroes. It’s a chance for our children to not only learn about their faith but also to deepen their understanding of the principles taught in the Book of Mormon.
During this activity the primary children will also be able to be a present-day hero by serving local refugee children as they help pack backpacks with needed school supplies.
We Need Your Help: The Spokane Stake Primary is partnering with the International Rescue Committee to host a school supply drive to help aid local refugee children with needed school supplies. Many of these families arrive with little to no belongings, and it is our hope to set their children up for success at school by making sure that they start with what they need in the fall.
For refugees, education is not just about learning; it is a lifeline to a brighter future. Schools offer stability, routine, and a pathway to integration into new communities. Yet, the lack of resources can be a significant barrier. Many refugee families struggle to afford even the most basic school supplies, such as notebooks, pencils, and textbooks. This scarcity not only hinders academic progress but also perpetuates cycles of poverty and exclusion.
Please consider assisting this great cause by clicking here and choosing school supplies to donate. Donations are needed by July 20, 2024.
In the journey towards rebuilding lives shattered by conflict and displacement, education stands as a beacon of hope. By ensuring that refugee children have access to school supplies, we empower them to become agents of change within their communities and beyond. Together, we can build a future where every child, regardless of circumstance, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
We greatly appreciate your support for this great cause, and look forward to being with the primary children on August 3rd to learn more about some of the heroes found in the Book of Mormon and serve local children in need.
With much appreciation,
Jennifer Anderson
